In the Mind of the Composer

There may be a sort of amusement park
in the mind of the composer
a bazaar at night after dinner
when people like to go for a walk
by the sea as in Coney Island
and voices call out on every side
inviting you to take part in some game or attraction
like the sounds of brass horns in a symphony
colliding and dissipating
in the night sky

Henry Monfleury received a bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York where he was introduced to modern poetry in English. He lives in Southern New Jersey by the Delaware river.
